Loofah Soap Instructions

By Milksuds at 02/08/08 14:40
Loofah soap is a beautiful exfoliating soap. Loofah soap instructions follow any soap recipe directions and you can use either cold process soap recipes or melt and pour recipes. The key to making loofah soap is the mold you pour the soap into. I tend to only make cold-process soap and enjoy how this soap looks with either white soap base or a light natural color (like from a spice or pigment). These soaps are unique and are good sellers during the dry winter seasons when customers are trying to get rid of unwanted dead skin.

Loofah Soap Instructions are outlined:

Equipment: PVC pipe (approx. 3 or 4 inch diameter size) -- lengths are determined on quantity of soap in recipe

loofah sponge (which is actually the dried inside membrane of the loofah gourd)

your favorite soap recipe, supplies and materials to make soap

Process: prepare your PVC pipe - I like short lengths like the size of one or two loofahs, because it is easier to remove the soap after it has hardened. The number of loofahs you need to place inside the PVC pipe depends on the size of your recipe. Seal one end of the pipe with freezer paper and masking tape. You may want to lightly grease the inside of the PVC pipe.

Prepare your soap recipe. If you are using cold process soap, please pour at light trace so it can penetrate the loofah. Seal open end as you did the first end so the soap will not leak. Insulate the soap and allow to properly cure before using. If you are using a melt and pour type soap, cool, unmold, slice and enjoy.

To unmold soap easily, make a disk the approximate size of the inside diameter of the PVC pipe. Push this disk through to unmold soap.

Note: If you have been making soap for a while, I would recommend scenting this soap with your best selling fragrance. See what happens!

These loofah soap instructions assume you have basic soap making skills and understand the safety in working with soap chemicals. If you do not have basic soap making knowledge, check out my website at How to Make Goat Milk Soap. You will find a soap making tutorial that has helped dozens of individuals learn to make soap. Many are now successfully running their own home based soap making businesses.
